Merry Tastie is a participating store in the Wichita Healthy Corner Store Initiative, a city funded program administered by Wichita State University’s Community Engagement Institute that helps neighborhood corner stores carry more fresh produce and healthy food.

Northeast Wichita has fewer full grocery stores than it should. A corner store that stocks fresh fruit and vegetables is not a small thing here. It is the difference between a walk down the block and a drive across town.

Fresh fruit and vegetables now sit alongside the snacks and the pickles, restocked for the people who live on these blocks.

Miss Merry built more than a store on East 21st. She built a neighborhood spot where everybody is family, and the flavored pickles are the reason people keep coming back.

You'll usually find her behind the counter, spoon in hand, telling you which one to try first.
